The TEXTURE-PRO and SPRAY-PRO hopper guns generally require an air compressor with a minimum rating of 2.4 CFM @ 90 PSI or 5.3 CFM @ 40 PSI to operate effectively.
If using commercial texture mix, follow the manufacturer's instructions. For joint or topping compound, thin the material by adding approximately 1/3 gallon of water per gallon of compound until it reaches the consistency of thick paint or thin pancake batter.
