6. Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal surface on the engine block or chassis of the disabled vehicle, away from the battery and moving parts.
7. Start the engine of the assisting vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
8. Attempt to start the disabled vehicle. If it starts, let both vehicles run for a few minutes.
9. Disconnect the cables in the reverse order: black clamp from the disabled vehicle, then black clamp from the assisting vehicle, then red clamp from the assisting vehicle, and finally red clamp from the disabled vehicle.
